A new copy of one of the local yellow pages landed on my office doorstep the other day. I say 'one of' because there's at least three different phone books by two different companies in my area. I like to flip through them to see who is spending big bucks on advertising, and I ran across this two page ad.

Bet they paid through the nose for this thing, but I wonder how effective this type of format is? Unfortunately, I don't have the last year's version to compare it to. I might give the company a call and see if they ran something similar last year, and if they did, what results they got.

Anyone ever done an ad in this format before? Is it just that most businesses don't want to shell out the $$$$ that it takes for this much real estate?

I'll bet the YP rep fought them every step of the way against running this ad.

The odds of this ad working are slim.

Some copywriter, who doesn't know sh*t about YP ads, CONviNcED the company to go this route. I feel bad for the company shelling out big bucks every month for such an ineffective ad.

YP reps aren't exactly known for their eye for successful ads. I wouldn't be surprised if they were responsible for at least part of this.
