My problem with Shamwow is the low-techness of it all. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the power of the pitch ruling the day but man is Vince talking into a telephone or was this video recorded on freakin' skype?

I liked the Tony Robbins infomercials that were running a few years ago. Also, the ProActiv commercials are pretty good for that market, and the products do work. I don't like the Sham-Wow commercial, although the product is very good.

I bought one of those Pedi-Paws in Wal-Mart. Good luck getting your pet near it. It's not that quiet!

That was the "yes, but..." factor for me. I figured, if my dog won't sit still for 2 seconds for me to clip the claw, she's going to sit still for 30 seconds while something buzzes around her paw?

Yeah, well, I looked VERY closely at that commercial after I bought the product. I don't think it's even running! My biggest dog--the lab--took one look at it as I took it out of the box and ran. The other dogs won't sit still for it.

Deb, I laughed out loud when I read your post because that's exactly what my dogs would have done! They're suspicious of anything that buzzes, hums or moves--so why would they let me near them with one of those things? Not sure who thought that thing would be such a good idea.

The reason you don't like it, Deb is because you don't like hyperbolic copy.  Wink

You're absolutely right about that one.

The ShamWow copy isn't really hyperbolic. But the spokesguy's over-the-top delivery certainly is.

It's the aural equivalent of one of Mr. Subtle's favorite MEGA-headlines.

In video number one, do you think he is going off of a script or is he ad-libbing the entire thing?

The reason I ask is because he says "you're gonna love my _____."
I won't say the word, I'll let you watch it and find the answer....

I thinks it hilarious that he says this. Is he trying to be funny or is
he simply trying to appeal to his target market?

LOL!

Steve,

He's giving his well rehearsed spiel. These guys like Vince are the same guys who show up at the state fairs and flea markets with booths selling this stuff. They've got these pitches rehearsed right down to the very last (ahem) adlib. You're gonna love my...  is something he knows he gets chuckles (but no complaints) with on the circuit... so he throws it in.
